We believe in keeping things simple and transparent. Every now and then, a client asks who owns the photos or videos after a project is complete. The answer is straightforward, and it is actually very similar to things you already experience in everyday life.
When you join a gym, you are paying for the right to use the equipment. You can work out every day. You can use the treadmills, weights, and machines as much as your membership allows.
But you do not own the equipment. You cannot take a treadmill home. You cannot sell the gym's dumbbells to someone else.
Your membership gives you the right to use the equipment, while the gym continues to own it.
You get the right to use the media for your business, for as long as you need it. We keep ownership of the creative work itself.
When AMM creates photos or videos for you, we are providing you with a license to use that media for the purpose it was created. For most of our clients, that includes everything they need.
Photos and videos are creative works protected by copyright. Across the photography, filmmaking, design, music, and software industries, creators typically retain ownership while granting clients the rights they need through a license.
This is not about limiting our clients. It is simply the standard way creative work is managed.
In fact, chances are you already use licensed content every day without thinking about it.
For nearly all of our clients, the standard license is all they will ever need. Occasionally, however, a situation falls outside the original project. Examples might include:
We do not believe licensing should be confusing or restrictive.
Our goal is to give every client the freedom to use their media confidently, while also protecting the creative work that allows us to continue serving our clients at the highest level.
We believe great relationships are built on clarity, fairness, and trust.
Just ask. We are always happy to help, and there is never a wrong question.
